when to visit cairns

Cairns is a holiday hotspot come rain, hail or shine, but if you want to make the most of your trip it’s good to get to know the seasons:

dry season – Between April and November, you can look forward to mostly warm and dry weather. If you're keen to swim at the beach and explore the Great Barrier Reef, this is the best time of year to visit.

wet season – Like all tropical climates, Cairns has a wet season, which falls between November and March. As most travellers prefer the dry season, this is the best time of the year to find cheap flights.

getting around cairns

The easiest way to get around Cairns is on two feet or two wheels, giving you the freedom to see more of the city while you explore. If the weather isn't great, buses connect the northern and southern suburbs via the city centre. For more information on fare prices and daily schedules, visit the Sunbus official website.
