You’ll touchdown at the Whitsunday Coast Airport (PPP) in Proserpine, with a few options to take you the 40 minutes to Airlie Beach. You can catch a bus outside the terminal and buy your ticket (for about $15 a person) at the booth inside the arrival gate. Or you can get a share taxi for about the same price but you should pre-book.
Airlie Beach is the vibrant hub of the Whitsundays and the ideal mainland base for fun and adventure in the Whitsundays. It is the perfect launching pad for activities on the water and in the lush, green rainforest of the Whitsunday Coast and of course the world famous Great Barrier Reef. By day you can explore the islands by boat and by night you can enjoy the local night clubs, bars and restaurants while soaking up the laid-back tropical atmosphere.
Great Barrier Reef - This is a place that well…needs no explanation. You could spend weeks exploring the reefs, beaches and waterways around the islands. Long Island - This slender slice of paradise is like one gigantic beach. As the name states, it’s long and slim. You could walk from one side of the island to the other in just a few minutes at the widest point. It’s a beachcombers dream with hiking trails everywhere, coral reefs in all the bays, and scenery so breathtaking, you’ll never want to leave.
Jubilee Pocket - This pocket of nature is only a few minutes away from the popular and buzzing Airlie Beach. If camping, hiking, and wildlife is what you’re after, Jubilee Pocket has it. You can retreat into the tropical rainforests and get lost in the acres of natural beauty for hours on end. It’s a nice alternative to the business of the city that will relax your mind as you enjoy the simplicity of one of Australia’s hidden gems.
